“Not Sorry” – expired medication, excess crayon, broken shoebox

Leah Price – Artist Statement

I take the abandoned, unwanted, unloved waste of life and give it purpose, weaving the story of the materials into the inspiration for the piece to create art that speaks to parenting children with special needs, the importance of place, recycling and waste management, and a zero waste lifestyle.

I recently completed Divorce: a Waste Audit, 30 pieces made from the waste generated by my family during the one-year period it took to negotiate separation; as well as Humatrope Collar, an embroidered yoke created from my daughter’s medical waste to protest Human Growth Hormone not being indicated for Prader-Willi syndrome in Canada. I also make garments from abandoned, reclaimed or reject textiles, using primarily couture sewing methods.
